    Tripler Army Medical Center

HONOLULU – At Tripler Army Medical Center top priorities are patient and employee safety and military readiness. The safety office and safety representatives are proactive and stay on watch to keep TAMC above the rest. Last year, under the U.S. Army Health Clinic, the organization and team achieved a monumental rating, the Army “Star Status,” from the Army Safety Health Management System. TAMC safety experts are committed to promoting safety on and off duty and are outstanding at maintaining and improving daily patient and employee safety.

The Safety Fair was on Oct. 23 and the focus was fire protection awareness for staff, patients and visitors. The Federal Fire Department participated with simulated fire extinguishers and fire alarms. Debra Thompson, safety and occupational health manager, informed visitors about the two fire activation alarms and understanding the intercom instructions. “Safety should be a part of what we do every day. It should be part of their culture,” says Thompson, who was named 2019 U.S. Army Medical Command Safety Professional of the Year.

Interactive displays were presented by the Federal Fire Department, infection control, environmental health, patient safety, occupational health, customer relations, MRI safety, medical maintenance, ear nose and throat for hearing safety, operations, credit card safety from Pentagon Federal Credit Union, Provost Marshal’s Office, and motorcycle safety.

For more information about safety and fire prevention please call TAMC’s Safety Office 433-6078.
