Congratulations to Alan “Wade” Doss on his selection as the new U.S. Army Engineering and Support, Huntsville Engineering Director.
Doss will assume his new duties upon the retirement of current chief Boyce Ross in November.
Doss is presently Chief of the Civil Structures Division in Engineering and has been with Huntsville Center for 15 years and served with distinction in numerous positions, starting as a program and project manager for various Installation Support programs, as a Division Chief of three separate divisions starting with Facility Repair and Renewal Division, followed by Facilities Division and Electronic Technology Division as well as the Deputy Director of the Installation Support and Program Management Directorate from 2014-2015.
He also has private sector experience serving as the Vice President and Technical Director of Shearer & Associates where he directly managed a staff of program and project managers, engineers, technicians and administrative personnel in providing Architect and Engineering solutions to numerous Department of Defense and commercial agencies.
Doss began his U.S. Army Corps of Engineers career with the Mobile District where he served as a Project Engineer and Civil Engineer working on the Total Environmental Restoration Contract and in providing project engineer duties on numerous design-build projects.
He is a graduate of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where he earned a BS in Civil Engineering. Doss is a licensed Professional Engineer and Certified Project Management Professional and is a member of the Army Acquisition Corps and is Facilities Level 3 Certified.
Doss has also been an active volunteer at Huntsville Center Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) events in support of education. He has encouraged the next generation to seek careers in STEM fields.
“These are our future leaders,” he said while serving as science fair judge in 2016. “I think events like this are great … the intelligence and ability of these kids in the things they are doing right now are impressive.”
Doss underlined the importance of professionals in STEM fields giving their time to support these type of events.
“It’s important for them to hear from, and get feedback from, engineers and scientist because those are the people who do these things for a living,” he said. “So, hopefully it will inspire them to be an engineer or a scientist one day.”
Huntsville Center provides several programs through the Engineering Directorate. Its Medical Facilities Mandatory Center of Expertise partners with Corps of Engineers Districts and Divisions to provide expertise for design and construction of medical facilities for DoD, other federal agencies and foreign governments.
Huntsville Center also develops medical design and construction policies, technical guidance, procedures, criteria, specifications and standards. The Center manages the project from initiation through 35 percent design.
The Environmental Program provides project design and environmental services focusing on investigations and remediation at DoD Superfund level CERCLA (Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act) and BRAC sites.
