BUSAN, Republic of Korea – A Chinhae-based physical fitness team visited Busan, Oct. 18, to lead morning command PT for the personnel assigned to Commander, Naval Forces Korea (CNFK).

The Commander, Fleet Activities Chinhae (CFAC)-based Navy Operational Fitness and Fueling System (NOFFS) team visited CNFK to provide the Sailors there with an intense and dynamic physical training session.

The NOFFS program, a Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) initiative, aims to provide the Navy with a “best in class” physical fitness and nutrition performance resource. NOFFS provides guidance to Sailors and Navy health and fitness professionals, enabling the Navy to maintain peak physical readiness, a top priority of the 21st Century Sailor and Marine initiative.

Shanna Blocher, a Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) NOFFS instructor, said the visit was meant to introduce CNFK to an effective fitness routine that can benefit the overall health of command personnel going forward.

“This morning, we brought you a NOFFS-style workout, which is more functional and is meant to get you ready for your mission, whatever it is,” Blocher said. “It’s pretty fun, too.”

“It’s a really good high-intensity functional training where you’re utilizing every muscle group,” she said. “This way, the workout can correlate to everyone’s job in the Navy. Whether you sit on a desk as an IT or you’re on a ship helping to pull into port, these types of workouts are going to be beneficial and help with that.”

Blocher and Kacee McKinnon, the two NOFFS instructors who support all U.S. Navy installations on the Korean peninsula, are certified instructors with backgrounds in health and nutrition who have each attended a number of training courses in their careers.

“The PT that we did today was a circuit training consisting of 30 seconds on and 15 seconds off of high intensity training,” McKinnon said. “It’s generally more effective, and it’s not boring.” After only one session, the new training has already won over some CNFK Sailors.

“It was a hard but fun workout that really made me feel great afterward,” said Sonar Technician (Surface) 2nd Class Jason Hatke. “It definitely helped break up the monotony. I’d love to do it again.”
