MARFORPAC CONDUCTS AMMUNITION SALE TO BRUNEI

CAMP H.M. SMITH, Hawaii – U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific, in coordination with the U.S. Embassy Brunei, has conducted the first-ever sale of ammunition to the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF). This sale was made possible by the ten-year Acquisition and Cross-Serving Agreement (ACSA) between Brunei and the United States. ACSA allows the U.S. armed forces to conduct the military-to-military exchange of logistics and supply services with Brunei. The ammunition was delivered Oct. 4 and Oct. 10, 2019, to the RBAF at Rimba Air Base via U.S. Air Force C-17 aircraft, and the transaction was conducted by Col. Boyd Miller, MARFORPAC Assistant Chief of Staff, G-4 (Logistics), and Colonel Pg Azmali bin Pg Haji Mohd Salleh, Director of Logistics for the Ministry of Defence, Brunei Darussalam.
“We are very pleased to conduct this transaction with the Royal Brunei Armed Forces,” said Col. Miller. “This is a tangible demonstration of the close relationship the United States and the Marine Corps have with Brunei, a relationship that grows stronger as we work together toward a more stable and secure Indo-Pacific.”
The U.S. relationship with Brunei is one of friendship and cooperation which dates back to April 6, 1845 when the USS Constitution, “Old Ironsides,” arrived in Brunei Bay to begin more than 174 years of friendly relations. Five years later, the U.S. and Brunei concluded the Treaty of Peace, Friendship, Commerce and Navigation, which is still in effect today.
The United States and Brunei defense relationship also includes various bilateral components such as ship visits, staff talks, exchanges, and exercises such as Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) along with other multilateral engagements such as Brunei’s involvement in the ASEAN – U.S. Maritime Exercise, the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, and the Southeast Asia Cooperation and Training (SEACAT) drills.
