The Brave Rifles are lethally trained and ready for rotations at the National Training Center at Ft. Irwin, Calif. and the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, La.

The Regiment of Mounted Riflemen are now preparing for line-haul and rail transport to NTC where they will begin their 20-02 rotation in mid-October. Concurrently, 3rd Squadron “Thunder,” 3rd Cavalry Regiment is training to execute the 20-02 rotation at JRTC starting mid-November to prepare for contingency operations.

“For 173 years we have been the Regiment of Mounted Riflemen. We have had horses, tanks, Bradley’s, HMMWV’s and now we have Strykers. We have our new horses that we are going to combat with and there is no other unit like the CAV,” said 3rd Cavalry Regiment Commander, Col. Ralph Overland. “We have to move quickly to the objective to destroy the enemy and move on to the next objective. That is what we do with our Strykers.”

For the past several months the troopers from 3rd Cav. Regt. have been in the field training. In June, squad training exercises were executed and the regiment continued to advance through a series of troop and squadron exercise in July. During August the squadrons conducted combined-arms live-fire and in September, the Brave Rifles executed their pre-NTC culminating training events, with a Regiment Field Training Exercise and Fire Coordination Exercise.

Regiment Command Sgt. Maj., Kim Mendez, praised the Brave Rifles troopers following the regiment’s recent training exercises and encouraged the troopers to continue to work hard, stay focused, and be proud of who they are and who they represent.

“You volunteered to come in the Army and serve your country and you are now part of something bigger,” Mendez said. “Wear your name proudly on your chest and represent your country. Wear the 3rd Cavalry Regiment patch on your shoulder proudly.”

Since coming out of the field, Overland said the regiment has been taking time to maintain their horses (Strykers).

“We had some fantastic training and we are now loading trains. We have made great strides,” Overland said. “Now it is time to move out to NTC where we will fight the Blackhorse and win.”
