Heritage Park reopened to the base public Oct. 7, 2019, at RAF Mildenhall, England.

Wing leadership participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the occasion.

“The reopening will provide Airmen and families with exercise and recreation space,” said James Ussery, 100th Force Support Squadron youth sports director. “Prior to the completion of the project, all social and recreation activities were limited to the Southside Fitness Center sports field. RAF Mildenhall now has another space Airmen can utilize with their squadron and as individuals to meet fitness goals and plans supporting Airmen readiness.”

It didn’t take long for the base populace to utilize the space, with a children’s flag football game held later that evening.

The 100th Air Refueling Wing funded an approximately $245,000 makeover that started in April and lasted six months.

With the park’s expansive fields supporting football, soccer and baseball activities as well as a track, outdoor pavilion and picnic benches, Airmen and families have a new space to strengthen their bodies and cope, through exercise, with the demands of military life.

“RAF Mildenhall Youth Sports is happy to share the fields with the base and want to contribute as much as possible to the health, wellness and resiliency of our great community,” said Ussery.
