The 2019 Combined Federal Campaign kicked off with a breakfast event Oct. 7, 2019 at Kirtland Air Force Base.
According to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, the mission of the CFC is to promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee focused, cost-efficient, and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all.
“The Combined Federal Campaign is an annual push that not just the military but the DoD and federal government engages in at large,” said U.S. Air Force Capt. Michael Bruzik, CFC installation executive. “What we do is we raise money which goes out to various charitable organizations.”
Service members, civilians and contractors are eligible to donate through the CFC until early December.
“It’s actually an open ended program,” said Bruzik. “There are a wide range of charitable organizations that we work with.”
With several charities available to donate to, each contributor can choose where their money goes.
“We don’t show preference to any specific charity,” said Bruzik. “When you make your donations, you can specify which one you want [your donation] to go to, or it can just go to a general fund.”
Squadron Key Workers are available throughout the various units and will collect paper pledges, distribute materials and be available for information.
Kirtland has set a goal of raising $126,000, which is $20,000 more than what was donated last year.
“I think it’s definitely a doable goal,” said Bruzik. “I think we are even going to push beyond that.”
According to Bruzik, in addition to donating money to charity, people can also donate their time
“I think it would be great if we can drum up some folks to go do some volunteer work and keep the momentum going,” he said.
Bruzik said that this time, frame during the CFC, and is a unique opportunity to engage in charitable causes in an official capacity.
“As the Air Force and as the military, we have an important role in society,” said Bruzik. “It’s great to show a side of what we do as the military to the public in terms of really helping and impacting people’s lives in a positive way.”
