INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Every October, the Air Force observes Energy Action Month to raise awareness of the critical role energy resilience plays in supporting Air Force priorities.
This year’s theme of “Energy Able, Mission Capable” is designed to showcase how efficient energy use increases mission capability and readiness for the global mission.
“Wasted energy and water equals wasted money,” said Mr. Artemiz Avci, 39th Air Base Wing maintenance engineering and planning chief. “Wasted resources equals wasted future.”
According to the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Environment, Safety and Infrastructure the Air Force spent $5.8 billion on fuel and energy.
The Department of Energy, supported by presidential executive orders, set consumption reduction goals for energy and water use.
“Since 2014 Incirlik has reduced energy use by seven and a half percent with a goal to reach 25 percent reduction by 2025,” said Avci. “We’ve reduced water waste by 15 percent in the same amount of time.”
While the Air Force works to integrate energy efficient technologies to stabilize and reduce energy demand service wide, things can be done at the individual level.
“To reduce energy use, people can turn off lights and appliances and unplug electronics when they’re not in use,” said Avci. “To save water, people can take showers instead of baths and wash full loads when using washing machines and dishwashers.”
For more information and energy saving tips, visit the Air Force Facility Energy Program booth outside the Base Exchange Oct. 4, between 11:15 a.m. and 12:45 p.m., and look for flyers at the dining facilities around base.
