LEMC supports global readiness through Advanced Missile Training

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Letterkenny Munitions Center (LEMC) technicians from the Joint Missile Systems team travelled to Australia recently to teach High-Speed Anti-Radiation Missile (HARM) and Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile (AARGM) maintenance to Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) missile technicians in support of coalition partner nation readiness requirements.

Dawine Thomas and Greg Hershey, LEMC Anti-Radiation Missile (ARM) technicians, provided three weeks of training to approximately 15 Australian missile technicians. The training consisted of packing/unpacking, separation of guidance section and control section components, component replacement and repair, as well as build up and testing for both HARM and AARGM.

RAAF technicians were appreciative of Thomas and Hershey's professionalism, attention to detail, and detailed instruction. They were also grateful for the U.S. Navy Foreign Military Sales office for their outstanding support.

"The flexibility of our mobile maintenance team has proven invaluable to the U.S. Air Force and our partner nations," said Brandon Yates, Logistics Management Specialist, LEMC. "This particular trip, which provided invaluable training and certification to RAAF technicians, ensure the readiness of our coalition partners for current and future requirements."

LEMC's mobile maintenance support, which deploys as needed both within the U.S. and overseas, is critical in maintaining unit readiness and stockpile reliability around the world. In addition to providing instruction to partner nations, LEMC technicians perform testing, inspection, software upgrades and maintenance forward in order to deliver a significant cost avoidance and time savings to all military services. LEMC's onsite support improves asset readiness, ensures stockpile readiness, prevents unnecessary down time, significantly reduces transportation expenses and provides capability, while ensuring operational effectiveness of military options within the region.

This particular support mission was just the latest requirement for mobile maintenance generated out of EUCOM, CENTCOM and PACOM. LEMC regularly sends teams forward to conduct missile testing, inspection, maintenance, upgrades, software updates and training to fulfill U.S. military and ally readiness requirements.

LEMC is located on Letterkenny Army Depot and is a Government-Owned, Government-Operated installation. LEMC conducts regional and global distribution of munitions, provides missile maintenance and conducts demilitarization of munitions for the U.S. Army in support of Joint Forces and international partner nations.
