A spouse of a military member at Naval Support Activity Bahrain became a U.S. citizen during a naturalization ceremony at the U.S. Embassy in Bahrain Sep. 19.
Emma Williams, wife of Chief Warrant Officer Edward Williams, was born in England and met her husband while working in Bahrain over a decade ago. After 13 years of marriage and two children later, Williams is finally an American citizen.
“I was born in Scarborough, North Yorkshire in England in 1977. I came over to Bahrain back in 2003 to spend time with my sister and family and ended up staying and working as a sales and marketing manager for Crowne Plaza hotel,” said Emma Williams. “It was through a mutual friend that I met my husband in 2005, who was stationed here at the time. We were married in Orlando, Florida August of 2006 and welcomed our son that October. Our daughter was born in September 2008. We have been married for 13 years and going strong.”
Williams also took the time to highlight the ease of the naturalization process and express her patriotism.
“The process this time has been a lot easier than when we originally started the paperwork for my fiancée visa back in 2006. This process has been very quick this time around,” said Williams prior to the ceremony. “I am excited to become an American citizen. For me, it solidifies my relationship with my husband and my children and I also believe in the country that my husband proudly wears his uniform for.”
Edward Williams was excited for his wife to become a citizen and expressed words of appreciation.
“For me it is an honor for my wife to become a U.S. Citizen. She has worked to prepare for this monumental day. Our kids and I will be there smiling, trying not to shed a tear,” Williams said just before the ceremony.
