KABUL, Afghanistan — Seven Afghan civilians were killed and eight were wounded when insurgents fired seven mortar rounds in the vicinity of Asadabad, Konar province, today.

A child injured in the attack was evacuated to Bagram Air Field by International Security Assistance Force troops for medical treatment. Three of the other injured Afghans received medical care at Camp Wright, while the remaining wounded civilians were cared for at a local facility.

"This is another example of the insurgent's complete disregard for the safety and lives of innocent Afghans," said Capt. Mark Durkin, ISAF Spokesman. "ISAF is working hard to prevent civilian casualties and to help bring security to the people of Afghanistan."

No ISAF service members were injured in the attack.
