    MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – Lt. Samuel Gebreselassie, an Indianapolis, Indiana native and Navy Supply Corps officer assigned to Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Business Systems Center (BSC), in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Sept. 6.

    Gebreselassie received the award for his service as a project officer at NAVSUP BSC from September 2016 to September 2019, from Capt. Douglas M. Bridges, Jr., commanding officer, NAVSUP BSC.

    “Lt. Gebreselassie has demonstrated excellent leadership and technical knowledge during his tenure at NAVSUP BSC,” said Bridges. “A true professional, he has made a lasting impact on the command by taking on a broad range of challenges and achieving noteworthy results. His exemplary work ethic, resourcefulness, and innovative outlook have positively influenced both the command and the local community.”

    As a project officer at NAVSUP BSC Gebreselassie, led more than 30 employees with 70,800 work-hours across 20 projects including life cycle management, modernization and project oversight for a broad range of Fleet, Department of Defense and International Information Technology systems, services and initiatives. Those systems included Food Service Management (FSM3), Retail Operations Management (ROM3), Electronic Retrograde Management System, and Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition project management.

    His notable accomplishments include: improving customer support procedures for processing NAVY311 trouble tickets to more than 240 FSM3 activities with more than $190 million orders annually; 138 ROM3 installs globally; engaging the Standard Accounting and Reporting System (STARS) to Standard Accounting, Budgeting, and Reporting System (SABRS) transition for Ordnance Information System (OIS); and serving as a key leader in OIS’s implementation of Cross Domain Enterprise Solutions for Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.

    Gebreselassie also served as the Command Fitness Leader and Voting Assistance Officer, in addition to duties as Watch Bill Coordinator, Command Duty Officer, and Casualty Assistance Calls Officer. Gebreselassie was the leader for the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), volunteered as the Adopt-a-Highway coordinator, and participated as a NAVSUP BSC Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics volunteer.

    While assigned to NAVSUP BSC, Gebreselassie earned the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) certificate from Penn State University, and completed Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) Level 2 certification in Life Cycle and Logistics, and DAWIA Level 1 certification in Program Management. He earned an undergraduate certificate in Supply Chain Management from Penn State University Smeal College of Business and attended additional courses in Supply Chain Leadership and Supply Chain Operations.
