The 114th Fighter Wing welcomes Command Chief Master Sgt. Brett Cownie, South Dakota National Guard incoming state command chief. Command Chief Master Sgt. Jeanne Gacke, South Dakota National Guard outgoing state command chief, relinquished the responsibility to Cownie, September 7, 2019 at Joe Foss Field, South Dakota.

Brig. Gen. Russ Walz, South Dakota National Guard Assistant Adjutant General for Air, presided over the ceremony.

Cownie was previously the 114th Fighter Wing’s Quality Assurance Superintendent for five years.

After assuming his new role, Cownie addressed the crowd as the new state command chief. He expressed some of his goals were to find more effective solutions to matters such as Sexual Assault Prevention and Response and resiliency training, as well as getting junior enlisted members more involved within the Enlisted Field Advisory Council. By seeking out junior enlisted members, Cownie hopes to effectively address the needs of Airmen at every level while serving in this position.

“My goal is to get young Airmen more involved in helping us find more solutions,” said Cownie.
