More than 230 people participated in the Back-to-School Fun Run hosted by Corvias staff Aug. 10 at the Colyer Forsyth Community Center.

Elizabeth Wert, leasing manager, said the event was timed with the return to school and was an effort to get residents out and active.

“We definitely wanted to do an event for back to school — to get everybody pumped and ready to go,” she said. “And just thank them for being our residents.”

When participants checked in for the event, they were given a pair of sunglasses and a bracelet with an inspirational phrase on it.

After the 1-mile fun run, snacks and drinks were handed out and more than 100 children received free backpacks for school.

Ingrid Tripple, wife of Sgt. 1st Class Mark Tripple, 2nd Battalion, 70th Armor Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, said that because her family had just moved to Fort Riley, the event was a good way for them to get out and meet new people.

“It was so much fun,” she said. “It’s nice to get out and to meet people and have the kids play together. You know, just try new things and get some exercise. I like to drag them to running stuff — the whole keeping them fit.”

Jennifer Correa, wife of Sgt. Erik Correa, 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd ABCT, 1st Inf. Div., said she enjoyed the event — since it was on a Saturday she could do the run with her husband.
