SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Air National Guard hosted its annual Wingman Day, June 8, 2019, at Roland R. Wright Air National Guard Base, Salt Lake City, Utah.

The theme of this year’s Wingman Day was Guard is Family. The event served as an opportunity to bring together the Airmen of the Utah Air National Guard, both past and present, and to recognize families and community leaders for their continued support of our state and federal missions.

“I grew up out at this base. Some of my earliest childhood memories are coming out to the Guard base to pick dad up from a trip. It’s just somewhere that I’ve always loved to be,” said Utah Air National Guard Colonel Daniel Boyack, assistant adjutant general-air. “I truly consider this my guard family.”

Spectators attended the free-of-charge event which featured airplanes, helicopters and military equipment displays, children’s games and activities, celebrity guest appearances, food trucks sponsored by various organizations, and more.

“As we travel around the country, people tell us they’re jealous of the National Guard here in Utah,” said Lieutenant Governor Spencer Cox. “The community support we have here, people like the England’s, people like the Miller’s, who are so dedicated to giving back. Guard is family and you are our family.”

The England family, owners of the C.R. England trucking company, provided the backdrop for the main stage at the event and have provided support in the past for various events with the Utah Air National Guard.

Also during Wingman Day, the Utah Air National Guard dedicated one if its KC-135R aircraft to the NBA’s Utah Jazz and the Miller family, owners of the team, whose support of the Utah Guard has been long lasting. The dedication incorporated adding a piece of “nose art” which includes the Jazz logo to the nose of the aircraft.

Wingman Day is an Air Force wide program which provides an opportunity for friends and family of service members to visit the base to learn about the missions. It also serves as a chance for Airmen to build morale and foster better relationships with one another.
