MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – Sixteen Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Business Systems Center (BSC) employees were recognized for their exemplary performance of duties and commitment to Navy civilian service during a ceremony August 29.

During the ceremony, Capt. Douglas M. Bridges Jr., commanding officer of NAVSUP BSC, recognized the contributions of more than 600 civilian employees and presented the command’s annual awards for 2019.

“Without the great efforts made by each of you, NAVSUP BSC would not be what it is today,” said Bridges. “It is you who brings the innovative ideas, products, and solutions that increase fleet readiness.”

Adil Azza, a member of the NAVSUP BSC Navy Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) Enterprise Business Office (EBO) Data Integrity Team, received NAVSUP BSC’s Senior Employee of the Year award for using his Navy Business Intelligence Services (NBIS), Statistical Analysis Software (SAS), Netezza, and Structured Query Language (SQL) skills in support of NAVSUP BSC and the Navy.

“Adil applies his Navy ERP knowledge and skills in data analysis to gauge processing problems, which allows functional staff to control defects,” said Bridges. “He works with customers to develop complex data reports for the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Secretary of the Navy, NAVSUP Headquarters, and others. He is a key resource used to help the Enterprise Business Office engage in data strategy discussions for the enterprise.”

Kira Fernandez, a NAVSUP BSC web developer for the NAVSUP Enterprise Web Team, received the Junior Employee of the Year award for her rapid design, development, and delivery of three mission-critical web applications supporting NAVSUP, the Department of the Navy, and the fleet.

“It’s nice to receive something like this because I really enjoy the work I do,” said Fernandez. “It’s good to see that what I do has meaning and is appreciated by the people I work with.”

Sharon Williams, a systems administrator for NAVSUP BSC’s Technology Services department, received the Command Support Employee of the Year award for her work on behind-the-scenes infrastructure that enables NAVSUP BSC’s employees to execute their missions.

“The award makes me realize that people appreciate the work I do,” said Williams. “I really enjoy the people that work here, you can’t get a better group than what we have here at NAVSUP BSC.”

Diane Billman, a team lead and order fulfillment subject matter expert for NAVSUP Navy ERP EBO, received NAVSUP BSC’s Leader of the Year award for her role in ensuring her team’s success on multiple critical NAVSUP and Navy projects.

“Her vast experience as the order fulfillment lead and subject matter expert, paired with her fierce commitment to fleet readiness, ensured outstanding customer service and assurance that fleet orders were filled expeditiously and accurately,” said Bridges. “Diane’s leadership has been critical in ensuring her team’s success working on multiple Navy ERP improvements.”

The Food Service Management (FSM) and Retail Operations Management (ROM) Team was recognized as the NAVSUP BSC Team of the Year for the development, fielding, and sustainment of logistics and supply solutions, including efforts on the Navy Information Application Product Suite (NIAPS) and Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) platforms.

“All of our teams are performing important work on behalf of our warfighters,” said Kevin Geist, director, NAVSUP BSC Logistics Support department. “For the FSM and ROM Team, their support this year provided improvements that were previously marked as impossible. Delivering updated versions of the products on the legacy NIAPS environments was a huge win and brings the maritime operational units up to date with the Enterprise versions of FSM and ROM for the first time in years. The concurrent move to the newer CANES environment means we’ll have more control over the release schedules in the future.”

Team of the Year recipients included: Steve Fealtman, project manager; Savina Dimitrova, systems analyst; Kevin Doss, systems analyst; Matt Dyer, ROM technical lead; Joe Eddhimene, systems administrator; Rob Gotshall, systems analyst intern; Mark Jordan, developer; Sherry Plank, systems analyst; Tim Pyle, afloat subject matter expert; Eric Sanders, developer; Leslie Yeckley, data manager; and Matt Wright, data management subject matter expert.

NAVSUP BSC provides the Navy with information systems support through the design, development, and maintenance of systems in the functional areas of logistics, supply chain management, transportation, finance, and accounting.

NAVSUP BSC is one of 11 commands under Commander, Navy Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP). NAVSUP is headquartered in Mechanicsburg and employs a diverse, worldwide workforce of more than 22,500 military and civilian personnel.
