    Free showing of Hollywood movie
    Producers of the Hollywood production “The Last Full Measure: the Airman Pitsenbarger Story,” will be hosting a showing at the theater on Friday, August 23, at 10 a.m. All Kirtland team members and dependents are invited to learn more of Medal of Honor recipient Airman 1st Class William H. “Bill” Pitsenbarger and his heroic duty in South Vietnam in 1966.     Blood Drive

    Security Forces customer service closure
    All security forces customer service sections, to include pass and registration, will be closed at 1 p.m. on August 29.

    Requesting Honor Guard services
    Requests for color guard ceremonies must be made at least seven days prior to the ceremony. Multiple requests made for the same day and time will honor a “first requested, first served rule,” except in the case of military funeral honors which take precedent over all other requests.     Speed limit reduced on Pennsylvania Street
    Bridge maintenance on Pennsylvania St. requires a speed limit reduction on this base road south of Wyoming Blvd. The new posted limit will be reduced from 50 to 40 mph. Drivers are advised to exercise caution when transiting through the area.

    Child Care for Air Force Ball
    For personnel eligible to use base child care programs and wishing to attend the AF Ball, Child and Youth programs will offer child care from 5 to 9 p.m. for a fee of $15 a child. CDC age children will be at the Gibson CDC while youth age children will be at the Youth Center. RSVP no later than September 17, after that it will be based on space availability.     POW/MIA ceremony to be held
    This annual recognition will be held at the New Mexico Veterans Memorial on Sep. 20 at 11 a.m. The veteran’s memorial is located adjacent to the intersection of Gibson and Louisiana boulevards just outside the Gibson Gate. POC: MSgt. Nicole Moeller, 846-1407.

    24 hour POW/MIA Run

    CCAF sets end date for Professional Manager Certification
    The Community College of the Air Force will no longer accept applications for the CCAF Awarded Professional Manager Certification program after September 30, 2019. To be eligible for the PMC, Airmen must have been awarded a CCAF degree and their 7 skill-level or higher. They must have also completed ALS, NCOA, SNCOA, or their equivalent, and also completed 30 semester hours of leadership/management coursework.     Post 9/11 GI Bill transfer cutoff deadline extended
    A change to policy will allow Airmen with 16 or more years of service to transfer their GI bill benefits to a spouse or child until January 12, 2020.

    Requirement for Civilians attending training
    Prior to attending any training of eight hours or more and/or if there is any cost involved, civilian employees assigned to Kirtland must submit an SF 182, Authorization, Agreement and Certification of Training (this does not include NAF personnel). The form must be approved by the 377 FSS civilian training office. All SF 182 requests must be sent to 377fss.fsdeto@us.af.mil at least two weeks prior to the training start date.     Volunteers Needed
    Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central New Mexico is looking for volunteers to mentor children and provide tutoring support in math, reading and writing at Wherry Elementary School.     Food Pantry
    Eligible service members including active duty, National Guard, Reserves, retirees, DoD civilians and their family members can go to the food pantry in time of financial hardship for the grocery necessities at no cost to them. The pantry is open from 7:15 a.m. until 4 p.m., and is located in the Consolidated Support Facility, Ste. 126.

    Hiring event
    The Airman & Family Readiness Flight is hosting an event in Room 120 of the Consolidated Support Facility from 8:30 a.m. to noon. It is free and open to all active duty, guard, reserve, retirees, DOD civilians and dependents.

    Capstone Event
    The final step in the Transition Assistance Program will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. in Suite 126 of Consolidated Support Facility. The capstone vent is a one-on-one meeting with Airman & Family Readiness Flight staff to verify completion of career readiness standards and should be accomplished no later than 90 days before separation or retirement. All separating and retiring service members on Title 10 orders for 180 or more consecutive days are required to meet the CRS which are verified by A&FRF staff member and documented on the DD Form 2648.     Charity Golf Tournament
    The Kirtland First Sergeant Council is hosting a tournament at the UNM Championship Course. Registration begins at 6 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. There is a $100 fee per person. Admission includes the green fee, cart rental and lunch. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. There is also a hole-in-one $25,000 cash prize.     Wilderness First Aid
    Outdoor Recreation is hosting a class on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The cost is $115. There will be classroom instruction and actual treatment scenarios. Participants will need to bring their own lunches as well as a sleeping pad, walking stick, ski pole, canoe paddle, extra clothes, a watch with a second hand, a stopwatch, baseball cap, water, pen or pencil, notebook, and at least three bandanas.     Horseback riding (waitlist only)
    Outdoor Recreation is hosting a trip to Tamiya Resort from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The trip includes transportation, safety gear, trip lead, ride lead/guide and entry free. Participants should arrive in proper riding clothing and bring a water bottle and snacks. There is a 225 pound weight limit.     Financial Peace University
    The Chapel offers the free class, Financial Peace University, at the 58th Special Operations Wing Performance and Leadership Center and Gravity Airman Ministry Center as part of its religious education program. FPU is an intense, stewardship training course that presents universal financial principles from a Christian perspective to empower people to take responsibility, remove debt, and build wealth. The classes run from Sept 9 to Nov 18 and sessions are Mondays from 11 a.m. to 12:45 at the 58th SOW, or from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gravity (No classes Labor Day or Columbus Day).     Mountain Bike Sunset Ride
    Outdoor Recreation is hosting a guided mountain biking event from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Participants can bring their own bikes or rent a bike from ODR. If renting participants must come get fitted for a bike before the trip.     Bouldering Ponderosa
    Outdoor Recreation is hosting a trip to the Jemez Mountains from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants should pack a lunch and water bottle and must have indoor or outdoor bouldering experience.     Outdoor Recreation is hosting a 5-day camping trip to the Grand Canyon.     SPORTS AND FITNESS CALENDAR:

    Ongoing fitness classes at the East Fitness Center in August
    All Terrain
    This class formats all terrains, to include team drills and visualization rides, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, 5:30 to 6:30 a.m. Tuesdays, and 11 a.m., to noon Thursdays.
    Power Ride
    Higher resistance training to improve strength, stamina and power, 11 a.m. to Noon Tuesdays and 5:30 to 6:30 a.m. Thursdays.
    Basic Training
    A 60-minute functional total body workout this class will incorporate cardiovascular, strength, endurance, balance, push-ups, core, speed and agility, as well as partner drills. Instructors will push to optimum fitness potential. Classes run from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 3 to 4 p.m. Thursdays.
    Muscle Hour
    Integrate balance with strength while using the barbells, heavy bars, and dumbbells to sculpt. BOSU and fit balls may be incorporated from time to time. All fitness levels.
    Class runs from noon to 1 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.
    Zumba® and Strong by Zumba®
    Zumba is a Latin-inspired, dance and tone program that runs from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday. Strong by Zumba combines body weight, muscle conditioning, cardio and plyometric training moves synced to original music and runs from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays.
    Yoga Stretch and Strengthening
    A level-1 class combining traditional yoga postures with deep stretching, breathing exercises, and meditation. Great for beginners and the more physically fit, resulting in increased flexibility, strength and stress reduction, running from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursdays.
    Yogalates
    Combines the muscle sculpting, core firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility advantages of yoga. This fat-burning, low-impact workout is designed for all levels and runs from 5 to 6 p.m. every Tuesday.

    Free weekend movies
    The base theater plays free movies, open to anyone with base access. Movies start Friday with “Booksmart” (R) at 6 p.m., Saturday begins with “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” (PG-13) at 3 p.m., and “Late Night” (R) at 6 p.m., and “Dumbo” (PG-13) on Sunday at 3 p.m.

    The 377th Force Support Squadron In-Service Recruiting Office provides Palace Front and Palace Chase briefings twice a month at 9 a.m., every second and last Wednesday at the Consolidated Support Building inside the FTAC training Rm. 111. This is a self-service function that allows members to book their own appointment and can be accessed 24/7.
