    97th Air Mobility Wing

Every year, the Great Plains Stampede Rodeo Association comes to town and the 97th Air Mobility Wing is involved in many unique ways. In particular, the cattle sorting competition invites wing leadership to the Watkins Ranch in Altus, Okla., to participate in a friendly, yet difficult, competition. On Friday, August 16, 2019, commanders were able to get to know their horses, get fitted for a saddle and practice for the upcoming event. After getting fitted, 97 AMW leadership had the opportunity to number the cattle with the help of the ranchers. The objective of the competition is to herd cattle into a separate ring in numerical order within two minutes. Competitions like these help continue to build strong relationships and maintain connections with the local community. These types of traditions are the backbone of Mobility’s Hometown, keeping Airmen connected to the agricultural heritage of Oklahoma.
