Sparking an interest in aviation can be a challenge, organizers of the first ever Discover Aviation Day at Maverick Air Center are hoping to accomplish just that.
“We planned this event for people of all ages,” explains Air Show chair Rick Tupper who went on to say, “somewhere out there is the next boy or girl who will develop the next way we fly and we’re trying to get them engaged today and get that excited twinkle in their eye.”
Organizers aimed to provide spectators the opportunity to experience aviation in a much broader perspective than just aircraft pilots. The event featured flight simulators, remotely piloted drones, and unmanned balloons from the Raven Aerostar Division.
This event was held in conjunction with this weekends Sioux Falls Air Show, which is held once every three years, but the committee plans to continue hosting Discover Aviation Day annually in the years to come.
