    7th Army Training Command

Brig. Gen. Christopher Norrie, commander of 7th Army Training Command (7 ATC), lead a Jäger Run in Grafenwoehr, Germany, August 16, 2019. Representatives from all 7 ATC’s brigades and directorates were present for the 3 mile run, which was held to help promote unit cohesion and strengthen esprit de corps.
“It gives the command group a chance to go out and see what the Soldiers can do,” said Sgt. 1st Class Michael Thompson, the G3 operations non-commissioned officer (NCO). “It shows that our Soldiers are ready and fit to execute the tasks expected of them.”
This was the first event all four brigades and directorates participated in under Norrie, who took command in June.
“We are expecting about 500 to 600 Soldiers to participate,” said Master Sgt. Brown, G3 operations NCO.
Norrie utilized the opportunity of having so many Soldiers present as a chance to see them in action.
“This run allows the commander and CSM (Command Sgt. Maj.) to conduct a pass and review of their Soldiers,” said Thompson. “Soldiers running together and seeing each other in action really helps build esprit de corps. Also, with so many participants a friendly rivalry can be a great way to make a team more cohesive.”
Norrie led the way during the Jäger Run, running in front of the entire formation.
“It encourages Soldiers when they see their command team out there with them,” said Staff Sgt. Edwin Barrientos, the Combined Arms Training Center (CATC) supply NCO. “You gain respect for a leader who is out there with you.”
The event ended with a lot of sweat and even more smiles. 7 ATC has a promising future with Norrie up front; he cares about Soldier morale and unit cohesion.
“Good leaders know to lead from the front,” said Barrientos. “Having the commander of 7 ATC in the front of the entire formation shows he has the characteristics of a good leader.”
