    1st Marine Logistics Group

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. - Whatever Marines need, from office supplies and uniforms for everyday use in garrison, to tents and generators in the field, there is one group of Marines to turn to.

They are the Marines of Organic Supply, 1st Supply Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 15, 1st Marine Logistics Group, who provide the logistical support to all the Marines and Sailors.

"We supply the whole battalion," said Pvt. Josh Vaughan, warehouse clerk, organic supply. "Whatever units need, they come to us and we order it," said Vaughan, 22, Decatur, Ga.

1st Supply Battalion provides the supplies needed in garrison and the proper equipment for when it's crunch-time during deployments.

"We make sure units get all the gear they need when it's time to deploy," said Cpl. Brandon Wells, 33, Rancho Cordova, Calif., assistant warehouse chief. "That's the majority of our job, but we support the individuals too. If a Marine needs uniform items or something simple like chairs, we do what we can to get it for them."

The responsibility of all the gear belongs to eight Marines. With units deploying, the Marines had to distribute gear and didn't stop until the job was finished. Most of those days started at 5 a.m. and lasted to 8 p.m.

Working in a warehouse filled with storage containers stacked to the ceiling and heavy equipment outside in the lot, the Marines have their hands full keeping track of all the gear.

In order to maintain accountability of this gear they conducted a "wall-to-wall." They pulled every item from the hundreds of storage containers within the warehouse, counted it and made sure nothing was damaged and could still be issued to operating units.

"When we do these wall-to-walls, we literally go from wall-to-wall," Wells said. "We have to keep everything in good shape, especially with so many units deploying."

Organic supply recently shipped supplies to Afghanistan for units already deployed there.

"With most of the gear gone to Afghanistan, we are waiting for the gear from Iraq so it can be stored here," Wells said.

Whether it's in garrison or the field, 1st Supply Battalion does what it takes to get Marines the essential items needed to complete the mission, whatever it may be.
