CHINHAE NAVAL BASE, Republic of Korea (Aug. 8, 2019) – Sailors, law enforcement, fire department personnel, and emergency medical personnel came together for a National Night Out Aug. 8 at Chinhae Naval Base, Republic of Korea, promoting community involvement and engagement with local residents.
National Night Out has been an annual event in the U.S. since 1984. The event included food, drinks, activities for children, educational opportunities, and safety demonstrations.
“This is another trust building event where our local community, our families, our Sailors, get to engage with the folks that provide them safety,” said Cmdr. Jeremy R. Ewing, Commander, Fleet Activities Chinhae.
Residents viewed the inside of a fire truck and ambulance, practiced baton strikes on personnel in a “Red Man” suit, learned about firefighting, and received informational booklets on safety and emergency situations.
“This event gets us out with the people we’re protecting and serving,” said Master-at-Arms 1st Class Keontez George. “My favorite part about this is getting all of these different groups of people together.”
More than 16 thousand communities in the U.S. participated this year.
