“Roll out, roll out, roll out…let’s go, let’s get out of here,” a Soldier called out during training on the Virtual Battle Space 3 (VBS3) July 21, 2019, Ft. Dix, New Jersey.

The 461st Human Resources Company out of Decatur, Georgia, and the 847th Human Resources Company out of Ft. Snelling, Minnesota, are attending their annual training together at Ft. Dix for the inaugural Human Resources Warrior. Though the VBS3 training is not a direct component of the HR Warrior, William Segalla, a VBS Training Integrator with the USARC Virtual Training Team, said that the Mission Essential Task List (METL) for almost every Army MOS requires that Soldiers are able to conduct a tactical convoy.

Segalla works with unit leaders to determine what a unit needs training on. Through the VBS system, units are able to practice a variety of Soldier skills, including warrior tasks, battle drills, land navigation, convoy training, and the 9 line medevac.

“The VBS system enables unit leaders to train a variety of individual and collective tasks at home stations that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to train in during a battle assembly weekend,” said Segalla.

The training this weekend is focused on reacting to small arms contact, identifying IEDs, vehicle recovery, 9 line medevac, and communication.

“I enjoyed the training because it allowed the unit to practice shooting, moving, and communicating – three important Soldier skills,” said Pvt. Henry Truong from the 847th HRC, who attended the training this morning. “The training offered a good slice of how chaotic it can be to react to enemy contact during convoys. It can be difficult to respond under pressure. Even if the danger is simulated.”
