FORT BENNING, Ga. -- Col. Todd Brown took command of the 75th Ranger Regiment from Col. Brandon Tegtmeier July 12 in a change of command ceremony on Inouye Field.
Brown most recently served as the deputy commander of the Joint Interagency Task Force National Capital Region.
Lt. Gen. Fran Beaudette, U.S. Army Special Operations commanding general, served as the reviewing officer for the ceremony.
“Rangers on the field, you serve in the greatest, most professional and most lethal Infantry unit in recorded human history,” Beaudette said. “We’re incredibly proud of you. You continue to make a tremendous, positive impact in combat for our nation each and every day.”
Beaudette told the crowd that Brown is the “right man at the right time to lead the 75th Ranger Regiment as they continue to take the fight to our nation’s enemies.”
Brown, the 21st colonel of the regiment, thanked those who traveled to attend the ceremony.
“Rangers out on the field, you guys look great,” Brown said. “You guys are big, strong and powerful. It is an incredible honor to rejoin your legendary ranks.”
The 75th Ranger Regt. has been in continuous combat since Oct. 19, 2001, with one-third of the regiment deployed at any given time. As the 20th regimental commander, Tegtmeier ensured the five Ranger battalions were combat ready, mentally and physically tough and prepared to fight the nation’s adversaries.
“I want to personally thank and congratulate Col. Brandon Tegtmeier for his outstanding and resolute leadership over the past two years,” Beaudette said. “His vision, energy and impact on this formation has been peerless.”
In his remarks, Tegtmeier spoke of the importance of legacy.
“The modern Rangers are living up to the legacy of our World War II predecessors and they are doing it daily on the modern battlefield against our modern-day enemy.
“I’ve witnessed Rangers push themselves to the painful edge of human performance over and over again to change where that edge sits,” Tegtmeier continued. “I’ve witnessed Rangers critique themselves harder than anyone external to us ever could. I’ve witnessed superhuman feats executed by many of the Rangers standing before you now.
“To the Rangers of the regiment, thank you for teaching me how to be a Ranger. I hope I lived up to your expectations; you certainly have lived up to mine. And other than raising my family, it has been the honor of my lifetime to pursue our nation’s enemies as a member of the 75th Ranger Regiment.”
Tegtmeier’s next assignment will be in the Washington, D.C., area.
Prior to the change of command ceremony, the 75th Ranger Regiment received the Joint Meritorious Unit Award for actions from October 2015 to July 2016.
From the award: “During this period, the 75th Ranger Regiment conducted continuous combat operations, including time sensitive raids and deliberate movement to contact operations in enemy held terrain resulting in numerous astounding successes with national implications. The extraordinary heroism unwavering determination, boundless esprit de corps, and the gallant actions in combat demonstrated by the service members of the 75th Ranger Regiment and its assigned units have brought great credit to themselves and to the Department of Defense.”
