FORT DRUM, NY -- The 33rd FMSU have now disbursed over 1 billion dollars.

"We have come a long way since we started our deployment back in February," said Sgt. 1st Class Jessica Tate, the Platoon Sergeant of the Bravo Detachment, 33rd Financial Management Support Unit, 10th Headquarters Special Troops Battalion. "Our Soldiers are doing great."

24 Soldiers from the B Det. 33rd FMSU are deployed in place to process all of the Commercial Vendor Services (CVS) contracts in support of the 18th Financial Management Support Center, Fort Knox, KY, and the United States Central Command area of responsibility during a 9-month deployment from home.

Deploying in place drastically reduces the cost of mobilizing Soldiers and reduces the overall footprint on the battlefield, said Capt. Corey Livingston, the former detachment commander during a previous interview held on Mar. 29, 2019.

"This is the most exciting mission I've been on since I joined the Army," said Capt. Joseph Mann, the new commander of the B Det. 33rd FMSU.

The detachment have met their 1 billion dollar goal months before the end of their deployment.

"We are operating as experts and can now pay the contracts very quickly and efficiently," said Lt. Sung Shin, the Commercial Vendor Services Chief for the detachment. "The previous unit to handle this mission never made it to one billion."

As their deployment draws to a close, the detachment is scheduled to send eight Soldiers to Fort Riley in early October to train and ultimately hand over the mission to the 9th FMSU, 1st Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade.

"My main goal is to give the 9th FMSU a proper handoff so that we provide a smooth transition, said Capt. Mann.
