For Air Force personnel, physical fitness is a crucial component of readiness and the pillars of fitness. For some Airmen, fitness is also a passion. For Staff Sgt. Hanna Schultz, fitness has been her inspiration to start a podcast in the hopes of sparking passion and interest for health and fitness in her wingmen.

Schultz's interest in physical fitness was sparked after joining the military.

“I was initially drawn into whole holistic health and wellness in college when I got back from basic,” said Schultz. “I started studying exercise physiology but also at the time I was transitioning from being an athlete in high school to doing my own workouts and I learned very fast that I didn’t know what I was doing.”

As Schultz began to recognize the areas she needed to grow in, she started learning more about nutrition and overall wellness.

“As the fitness was developing I started paying attention to the foods I was putting into my body and realizing that plays a huge role in my fitness and getting the results I wanted to see, so it was a lot of self-education at first." said Shultz.

Overtime, Schulz started seeing results and had people asking about her health and wellness regimens. To help spread the word about holistic health, she decided to start a podcast.

“My intention was to bring this awareness to other members of the Air Force and people in my civilian life as well,” said Schultz.. “It’s not just one thing, it’s not this perfect diet or this perfect fitness routine, it’s really tailoring health and wellness to you and figuring out what works for you. It’s called True Wellness RX and my catchphrase for it is 'It’s a lifestyle prescription inspiring you to nourish move and connect each and every day for optimal wellness.”

Schultz understands that fitness is an important part of being a successful Airman.

“Fitness definitely impacts the ability to do your job,” said Schultz. “You want to have energy, you want to have good mental clarity, and that follows suite when you have good physical fitness.”

Through her podcast, she hopes to help those around her find a fitness and nutrition plan that works for them and to hopefully perform better in the process.

“Having a well-balanced lifestyle and nutrition to support that fitness is really important. They help to keep morale up and feel good in our bodies and feel capable of doing that job when it comes to it.”
