FORT KNOX, Ky. — A burial service with full military honors is set for a U.S. Army soldier who died in the Korean War 66 years ago.

Army Pfc. Roger L. Woods, 18, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, will be buried Wednesday in Goshen Cemetery, Goshen, Ohio.

Woods was a member of Company I, 3rd Battalion, 34th Infantry, 24th Infantry Regiment when, on July 29, 1950 he was reported missing in action after last being seen in the vicinity of Kochang, South Korea. Absent any evidence of survival, the Army declared him deceased on December 31, 1953.

Woods’ remains, initially recovered in 1950, were declared unidentifiable and buried at the National Military Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii as an “Unknown.” His remains were disinterred in August 2018 and he was accounted for on May 21, 2019.

To identify Woods’ remains, scientists from the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) used dental, anthropological and chest radiograph comparison analysis, as well as circumstantial and material evidence.
