ANNWEILER AM TRIFELS, Germany – Displays of parachutes, a mobile surgical tent, hazardous material unit equipment, and military police gear, ensured the 21st Theater Sustainment Command had something for everyone at the 2019 Rheinland-Pfalz Tag in Annweiler am Trifels, Germany June 28-30.

The annual three-day state fair featured traditional German cuisine, live music, entertainment, amusement rides, and military equipment demonstrations and displays by both the German and the United States armed forces based in the German state of Rheinland-Pfalz.

Soldiers from 16th Sustainment Brigade’s 5th Quartermaster Theater Aerial Delivery Company offered fair goers the opportunity to harness up and feel like a United States paratrooper with a free-fall and static line parachutes.
Trying on one of the parachutes, Jörgen Zeigler, an Annweiler am Trifels resident, realized the parachutes were a lot heavier then they looked just sitting on the table.

“Jumping out of a plane with the parachute would be tough because the harness makes it hard to walk and move in,” Zeigler said.

Team 21 has been an invited guest of the Rheinland-Pfalz Tag since the first fair in Koblenz, Germany in 1984. Each year the event is hosted in a different location within the state and this year more than 150,000 visitors were expected to visit.

In addition to the local community viewing and asking questions about the displays, Team 21 Soldiers were invited to participate in a youth reception hosted by the Rheinland-Pfalz Minister President Malu Dryer and state council members. The youth reception provided a forum for young Germans to ask questions directly to Dryer and the council members.

Although the event space was smaller than previous years, Team 21 and the Bundeswehr still packed the space with displays showing the vast capabilities available. Planning for next year has already started for Team 21.

“As we countdown to the next event, I hope to see the superb support everyone has given and to continue in a much larger setting as we had done in previous years,” said Sgt. 1st Class Stephane Salnave, 21st Theater Sustainment Command. “Also, to better showcase 21st TSC's capabilities further and to continue to work alongside our host nation officials.”
