KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghan national army commandos with the 207th Corps, assisted by coalition forces, destroyed 150 kilograms (331 pounds) of narcotics discovered in Shindand District, Herat province, Tuesday.

The Afghan-led force was conducting a cordon and search of an area known for heavy insurgent activity when they discovered the narcotics, with a street value approximately $2-million dollars, inside a compound.

An assault rifle and 14 fully loaded magazines of ammunition were also confiscated. The drugs were destroyed on site.

The profits made from the sales of opium and other illegal drugs often go towards funding insurgents and their operations throughout Afghanistan.

No commandos, coalition forces or civilians were injured during the cordon and search.
