U.S. Soldiers and Polish forces gathered together to celebrate the Poland’s 25th Air Cavalry Brigade’s Day, on June 29, 2019, in Nowy Glinnik, Poland. The day consisted of a cavalry picnic, historical cavalry show, combat skills presentation and various military aircrafts were on display. The 25th Air Cavalry Brigade’s Day is a day meant to celebrate the 25th anniversary of establishing Poland’s Air Cavalry as well as their 20th anniversary of joining NATO.
“Its a joint effort between 1-6 cav and 25th to show comradery and team building between the two.” said CW2 Justin Harcus Apache pilot. “All this is a joint effort and we are here to support our NATO allies.”
U.S. Soldiers flew in an AH-64 Apache to the picnic to set up a static display for everyone to enjoy. During the picnic U.S. Soldiers interacted with the Polish citizens by handing out stickers, posing for photos and showing the apache’s interior, as well as how it operates.
The 25th Air Cavalry Brigade demonstrated the Polish army’s training and the professional equipment used by the unit during a land and air parade. This was a unique event that allowed 1st Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment, Soldiers to attend and show U.S. support to their NATO allies.
During the parade, the 25th Air Cavalry Brigade performed an air assault, land and parachute operations, combat skills presentation and horse presentation for the hundreds of polish civilians and U.S. Soldiers who attended the event.
During the air assault, land and parachute operations presentation Polish Soldiers were seen in full uniform parachuting and rappelling out of a military aircraft to seek and destroy the objective on the ground. Polish students and Polish soldiers put together a combat skills presentation where they used props such as knives, guns and steel rods to show their combat readiness and lethality.
“This event shows the strong bonds and linkages between the unit and the strength of the alliance,” said Lt. Col. Brian Angell, squadron commander for 1st squadron, 6th Cavalry regiment. “This event helps improve interoperability between us and our training partners and really shows that NATO is one team, one fight.”
The First Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment Soldiers were able to see all the presentations performed by Polish soldiers, interact with the Polish civilians, learn about Polish military equipment and try polish food during this memorable event. These types of events allow Polish forces and U.S. Soldiers to come together and strengthen bonds between the allied nations, which better prepares them for the future.
