The U.S. Air Force Academy Falcon Foundation established the Alison Award in honor of Maj. Gen. John R. Alison, a decorated World War II and Korean War veteran, also known as the father of Air Force Special Operations.
The award was established to recognize commissioned officers who exemplify the Air Force by demonstrating outstanding character and innovation.
The 2019 nominee for Air Force Global Strike Command is Capt. Timothy Marriner, 90th Security Support Squadron operations officer.
Marriner was born and raised in Cape May Court House, N.J., and attended Stockton University where he studied Criminal Justice and Philosophy. Upon graduation, Marriner worked as a park ranger at the Grand Canyon National Park, eventually commissioning into the Air Force through Officer Candidate School in 2010.
After arriving at F.E. Warren, Marriner began working in security forces and became an advocate for his sections.
“The units need a lot of administrative business handled and I try to focus on that so they can accomplish the mission,” said Marriner. “At the end of the day I want to make sure they have everything needed to get the job done.”
The nomination shows how every section plays a part in the innovative programs within the unit. It was not achieved by one person alone.
“Capt. Marriner and the whole team are deserving of this award,” said Maj. Brian Hern, 90th SSPTS commander. “Every time I walk the halls I am inspired by what they are doing. They are pushing the limits of security forces capabilities, developing innovative ideas and leading the career field in a positive direction.”
Marriner works with a majority of the 90th SSPTS teams to continuously achieve the mission including the Convoy Response Team, Unmanned Aerial Systems and the Training Team.
“This may be presented as an individual award, but it’s really not. This is a total team effort,” said Marriner. “This is for the people I work with who motivate me and the amazing leadership who create a team environment for us to succeed.”
The nominations have been submitted at the Air Force level where a winner will be chosen.
The recipient of the Alison Award will be presented at the Falcon Foundation Banquet in November.
