U.S. Navy Sailors Become Honorary Knights of Rosaria

PORTLAND, Ore. – Three U.S. Navy admirals and one captain were given the honor of becoming knights during the annual Royal Rosarian Honorary Knighting Ceremony, hosted at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Portland, June 7.

The knighting ceremony is held annually to bestow honorary knighthood upon dignitaries and persons of accomplishment from around the world.

This year a Japanese mayor, the local Portland minor league baseball team mascot, Miss Oregon, and several local businessmen and women were knighted alongside Vice Adm. John Alexander, commander, U.S. Third Fleet, Rear Adm. Yvette Davids, commander, Carrier Strike Group 11, Rear Adm. Scott Gray, commander, Navy Region Northwest, and Cmdr. Daniel Patrick, commanding officer, Pre-Commissioned Unit USS Oregon (SSN 793).

“The event was great,” said Patrick. “It was a great way to sort of integrate the Navy [personnel] in with the people of Portland, and not only let us show how much we care about Portland, but also a way for the people of Portland to extend some love and hospitality to us as well.”

Over the years, the knighting ceremony has recognized hundreds of famous and successful individuals. Over the years people like Orville Redenbacher, Bucky Buckwalter, Amy Roloff, the University of Oregon duck and many others have been given the honorary title as a knight/dame of Rosaria.

“I feel so proud, and am so pleased [to be a dame],” said Davids. “It is such a blessing that we were invited to participate in special and time-honored event. We’re now tied to Portland forever.”
