HONOLULU, Hawaii (Jun. 7, 2019) - Senior Construction Engineer, Edwin Yago, Pacific Ocean Division (POD), was selected as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE), POD Civilian Employee of the second quarter for fiscal year 2019, during a ceremony on May 29, 2019.

Yago was recognized by the POD Commanding General, Brig. Gen. Thomas Tickner, as leadership talked with the workforce during their monthly engagement session.

Tickner expressed his gratitude for the work that Yago does for the organization, and said that he was delighted to present Yago with the award in recognition of the excellent work that he does as the senior construction engineer.

Yago said “It’s such an honor to be awarded as POD employee of the quarter. I cannot thank enough all the folks who helped me and provided advice throughout the years at POD. I’ve learned a lot from our POD leaders and team members!”

“It’s amazing to see our POD team members step up and take on initiatives, whether it’s regional training, doing root cause analysis, supporting the districts and looking at ways to revolutionize the region,” he said.

Yago, who has worked for POD for almost three years, further stated how much he just enjoys working for the organization. With a touch of local Hawaiian humor he said “It’s all about learning, sharing and ultimately getting mo’ bettah!”

Yago’s supervisor, Interim Chief of Business Directorate, Brian Kamisato, commended Yago, saying “Ed does a great job of helping our Districts and leading the construction community of practice for the POD region. He is a consummate professional, always willing to step in and help where he can.”

Kamisato continued “Ed has also done an exceptional job in leading our Design Construction Evaluations and secured defense acquisition workforce development training funds for our region.”

Kamisato went a bit further and expressed that “most of all, Ed is a great teammate and creates a spirit of teamwork and collaboration in all that he does.” He went on to thank Yago for his hard work.

USACE Command Chaplain, Col. Raymond Robinson who was visiting at the time of the award presentation, addressed the workforce and commented on the proceedings. He said that employee recognition as demonstrated with Yago is one of the ways that the command can help to foster the right kind of work environment for everyone.
