The Wounded Warrior Regiment (WWR) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) partnered for the first joint exercise dedicated to honor and empower the nation’s wounded, ill, and injured service members aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico (MCBQ), Virginia, May 22, 2019.

Approximately 75 recovering service members (RSM) and 250 FBI national academy representatives attended the training and networking event, held at the FBI Academy. It included a career fair and joint physical training exercises.

The organizations realize a lot of the skills, values, and experiences the participants have learned as service members are similar to the skills their employers and the federal government are looking for, explained Scot Huntsberry, the chief of the FBI’s physical training unit aboard Quantico.

“The hosting agency brought different national security agencies to educate RSM's about opportunities of employment and internship,” explained Marc C. Savine, the senior program director for WWR’s Warrior Athlete Reconditioning Program.

It began with a job fair in the morning and transitioned into athletic events in the afternoon. The athletics consisted of six stations, each lasting six minutes, that switched between push, pull, speed, and endurance exercises lead by instructors from the FBI and Quantico.

“These events were definitely true tests of perseverance; when you feel like you’re running out of gas, and you want to quit, your teammates are there to help you continue pushing. in turn, you have to do the same,” explained Gunnery Sergeant Donald Dansby, Wounded Warrior Battalion - West, Camp Pendleton, California.

Dansby stated the job opportunities afforded to the wounded warriors and Marines, in general, are something he’s looking into so he can share more possibilities for them to take advantage of.

“This is an experience like none other,” Dansby exclaimed. “I encourage more warriors to come out next year!”
