With Air Force Band of Mid-America on stage, the spotlight was on…..Grissom Air Reserve Base!

Members of the band played a free concert at McHale Auditorium in Logansport, Indiana and entertained an audience while also providing information about Grissom, Air Mobility Command, and the Air Force.

“These are such great events,” said Col. Larry Shaw, 434th Air Refueling Wing commander. “I love the opportunity to listen to the incredible musicians and share our story.”

The Band of Mid-America has a long history of entertaining the American public and promoting esprit de corps within the military.

Based out of Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, the band stopped in Logansport as they made their way around the Midwest.

“It’s amazing the talent level the band has,” Shaw said. “The number of members with master’s and doctorates is incredible and they bring that talent to us!”

Each year the Band of Mid-America performs for millions of people throughout a 10-state region from the upper peninsula of Michigan to Arkansas.

“I really loved when they played each of the service songs,” Shaw said. “Seeing veterans stand up to show pride in their service, and be applauded by others was just awesome.”

Air Force bands communicate key DOD and Air Forces messages to a wide audience to instill patriotism, build partnerships, enhance the reputation of the Air Force and the United States, as well as demonstrate American values to the world.

One of the highlights was bringing Logansport students on stage to play with the band.

“To have that involvement with the kids was great,” Shaw said. “Music is a common language and fostering those relationships is very important.”
