    KISSIMMEE, Fl. -- Marine Corps veteran Sgt. Jamel “Semper Fi” Herring is scheduled to fight for the World Boxing Organization junior lightweight title, Saturday, May 25 at Osceola Heritage Park, Kissimmee, Fl.
    Herring enlisted in the Marines in October 2003 and served in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was stationed in Camp Lejeune and earned the rank of Sergeant during his time in the Marine Corps.
    Herring represented the United States during the 2012 London Game, and shortly after in December 2012 he officially became a professional boxer.
    He is the only United States Marine to compete at the London Olympics and the first active duty Marine to qualify for the US boxing team since 1992.
    Herring’s opponent for the title fight is Masayuki Ito, the current WBO junior lightweight champion.
