FORT GORDON, Ga. -- Sailors from the Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) Det. Fort Gordon took a break from their busy class schedules, May 22, to pay tribute and honor the Sailors and Marines who have paid the ultimate sacrifice fighting for our country in the in the Middle East since 9/11.

Each year, the Marine Corps. Det. at Fort Gordon organizes the "Tribute to the Fallen" run that continues 24 hours a day for 10 days. Runners travel the 3-mile trail around Barton Field carrying 21 rounds of ammunition and wearing three sets of dog tags, one for each mile, that represents three fallen service members. On the final day, various units from all military branches stationed at Fort Gordon complete the run together, and the 21 rounds are handed off to the firing squad which renders a 21-gun salute.

"Going into Memorial Day, it is important that we to take the time to reflect and remember all those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving our nation," said Master Chief Electronics Technician John Dikun, CIWT Det.
