Four Airmen from Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, were awarded $1,000 scholarships May 17, 2019, to help fund their education goals.
Tech. Sgt. Cassie Barnell, Senior Airman Carli Johnson, Airman 1st Class Ashley Deliz-Aguilera and Airman 1st Class John Szwec all earned the scholarship.
Tyndall members are working toward building a better Tyndall after Hurricane Michael, and the scholarships are an example of how the base is taking care of their Airmen during this rebuilding phase.
“The scholarship is going to members of Team Tyndall that have weathered the storm,” said Master Sgt. Samual Dickerson. “A lot of the applicants and winners have gone through a lot financially post hurricane.”
Dickerson said the scholarship boosts morale on Tyndall because it shows the base is continuing annual traditions regardless of the hardships faced.
Deliz-Aguilera said she is working toward becoming a doctor for the military. The scholarship helps her focus on the future, and she appreciates the support from her base.
“I encourage other Airmen to keep moving forward toward their dream,” said Deliz-Aguilera. “It does not matter how big your dream is, all you need is dedication and you will eventually find the support needed, but you have to start with yourself.”
The Tyndall First Sergeant Group Scholarship Program and First Command Financial Services sponsored the scholarship.
