Lt. Col. Julie D'Annunzio retired from the U.S. Army following a 23-year career at a retirement ceremony in her honor held May 10 at the Fort Hamilton Community Club's Washington Room in Brooklyn, New York.

D'Annunzio's retirement ceremony provided an end point on a 23-year career as a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers commissioned officer. She served in assignments of increasing responsibility until her most recent, final assignment as the Corps' North Atlantic Division (NAD) Chief of Staff.

Her career also included overseas assignments in Mosul, Iraq as the 2nd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division's brigade engineer and in Korea as the deputy commander of the Far East District, Pacific Ocean Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Former military colleagues, college friends and NAD employees filled the room and gave her a standing ovation at the conclusion of her remarks.

Also speaking at the ceremony were NAD Commander Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Milhorn and D'Annunzio's district commander in Korea, Col. (Retired) Bryan Green. Milhorn presented D'Annunzio several honors to recognize her long, honorable service including the Army's Meritorious Service Medal, a certificate of appreciation signed by President Donald Trump, the certificate of retirement signed by Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley, the retiree lapel pin and the United States flag.

Lt. Col. D'Annunzio is a native of Bradford, Pennsylvania and she graduated with a bachelor's degree in geology from Slippery Rock University in Butler County, Pennsylvania.
