BANGKOK – On May 13, U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Dennis P. LeMaster, commanding general, Regional Health Command-Pacific visited Thailand. During the visit, LeMaster met with Maj. Gen. Promote Imwattana, director general, Royal Thai Army – Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences; Dr. Peter Haymond, Chargé d’Affaires, U.S. Embassy-Bangkok; U.S. Army Col. Wayne Turnbull, senior defense official, defense attaché and chief of the Joint U.S. Military Advisory Group Thailand.
While at AFRIMS, LeMaster gained an understanding of the medical research, collaborative efforts and capacity building between the local population, the Royal Thai Army, other Southeast Asian nations and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Regional Development Mission in Asia. LeMaster also had an opportunity to participate in the U.S. Embassy’s Thailand Health Policy Working Group.
