U.S. Army Reserve units are here to partner with the Canadian Army for Maple Resolve 19-01. Maple Resolve is a multinational joint training exercise, with over seven countries and more than 6,000 troops, that is hosted by the Canadian Army. The cooks’ mission here is to provide meals for the troops involved in the exercise to ensure they are nourished and ready for the task at hand.
“Our overall mission as cooks is to support the active duty cooks here,” said Spc. Tania Deschaine, a cook with the 189th Transportation Company, Muskegon, Michigan.
During their time on Wainwright, they have worked diligently to train and integrate knowledge amongst each other.
“The first day they welcome you with open arms,” said Staff Sgt Montique Beazer, a cook with the 877th Quartermaster Company, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The partnership with Canadian Armed forces not only includes utilizing the equipment to make healthy meals for the troops, but also preserving the already strong relationship we have with Canadian military.
“The way they function isn’t much different from the way we function, so the transition isn’t all that hard,” said Beazer. “ We have a lot of the same equipment back at our unit.”
Creating a impenetrable bond with the Canadian armed forces has helped the transportation company improves their skills and complete the mission.
“In order to have support you need to have that teamwork and be able to have soldiers that know how to do their job,” said Beazer.
