Navy Medicine’s ‘PINC’ Clinics Awarded by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Navy Medicine’s ‘Operation PINC clinics’ received the prestigious Council of District Chairs (CDC) Service Recognition Award from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), May 4.

Recognizing the need for improved access to contraception, Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) launched the “Process Improvement for Non-delayed Contraception (PINC)” initiative in February 2016.

Since then the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery’s (BUMED) Office of Women’s health, working in conjunction with local commands, have expanded the walk-in contraception model to fifteen additional MTFs across the Navy enterprise in the three years following.

Capt. Nanette Rollene, ACOG’s District X Navy section Chair, accepted the award on Navy Medicine’s behalf.

“There are a lot of people working hard to expand the walk-in contraception model around the world and I hope this award will generate a burst of energy to help the PINC clinic go DOD wide,” said Rollene.

PINC clinics offer counseling and non-delayed services on all approved forms of short-acting reversible, long-acting reversible and emergency contraception during the visit to all eligible beneficiaries.

“Winning such a prestigious award just confirms the innovative and impactful work going on within the military OB-GYN community,” said Rollene “The outpouring of support I received from my civilian counterparts was truly humbling. “

The efficacy of the model has likewise been recognized by the Defense Health Agency (DHA) and Army who are beginning to adopt the model. The Navy continues to expand the model with other Navy commands planning launch dates in the summer of 2019.
