Work requires lane restrictions for 5-6 nights in next weeks
CONCORD, Mass. – As of Monday, May 6, 2019 at about 4 p.m., all four traffic lanes on the Cape Cod Canal’s Bourne Bridge in Bourne, Mass., are now fully open and will remain open during the day, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District officials. Bridge repair work will still require lane restrictions for 5-6 nights over the next couple weeks until the project is completely finished.
Work remaining, and requiring a steady period of warm, dry weather, is the waterproofing of the sidewalk and brush-curbing. This will be completed over the next couple weeks and will require lane restrictions at night, minimizing impacts to Cape Cod traffic.
The contractor, R. Zoppo Corporation of Stoughton, Mass., finished up work on the road surface and started removing traffic control today to open all four lanes to traffic on the Bourne Bridge.
The Corps of Engineers team thanks the Cape Cod and region commuting public for their understanding and patience during the execution of these necessary bridge repair activities and lane closures. The bridge repair work is critical to maintaining the structural integrity of the bridges, which are a vital component to the transportation system of Cape Cod, the Islands and southeastern Massachusetts.
