SAN ANGELO, Texas– Cryptologic Technician (Collection) 1st Class Pedro Montanez, a Puerto Rico native, assigned to Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) Det. Goodfellow was honored with Meritorious Mast, May 3.

Meritorious Mast is for the purpose of publicly and officially commending a member of the command for noteworthy performance of duty.

Lt. Cmdr. Austin Maxwell, officer in charge of CIWT det. Goodfellow, administered the Meritorious Mast for Montanez’s actions above and beyond the call of duty.

As an instructor at CIWT Det Goodfellow since July 2015, Montanez quickly became a subject matter expert in various areas. During a period of austere manning, he was reassigned from the podium to be trained and perform as the command pay and personnel administrator (CPPA), where he quickly adapted and began supporting the Det.’s 100 plus Navy and Coast Guard Sailors.

Additionally, Montanez trained four new CPPAs and continues to support the administrative staff at CIWT Det. Goodfellow even while now in his primary assignment as an instructor on podium. He also serves as the command fitness leaders, drug and alcohol advisor and a English as a Second Language courses translator at Central High School.

CIWT Det. Goodfellow is one of two detachments assigned to CIWT. With four schoolhouse commands, two detachments, and training sites throughout the United States and Japan, CIWT is recognized as Naval Education and Training Command’s top learning center for the past three years. Training over 21,000 students every year, CIWT delivers trained information warfare professionals to the Navy and joint services. CIWT also offers more than 200 courses for cryptologic technicians, intelligence specialists, information systems technicians, electronics technicians, and officers in the information warfare community.
