The Offutt Food Pantry recently celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The pantry was the result of the efforts of Team Offutt’s U.S. Air Force Chaplain (Capt.) Matthew Brantley, 55th Wing, and Amber Christiansen, 55th Medical Group, who were looking for a way to give back to the community.

It is open to military members, civilian employees, contractors, retirees and dependents.

“I am most thrilled at the reality of another available resource for those who desire not to communicate their current circumstance, the unspoken need, with others,” Brantley said. “We have an obligation to be Wingmen to one another and that consists of making sure that all needs are met.”

Offutt’s food pantry is located on the ground floor of the Ehrling Bergquist clinic in room GH036 near the loading dock.

Senior Airmen Robert and Valarie Archer, 55th Medical Group lab technicians, are responsible for monitoring the pantry, but there is no one on-sight, so visitors may remain anonymous. The OFP is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For those who would like to donate, collection bins are stationed inside the clinic near the elevators.

“Before dropping off donations, check the expiration date on the items to make sure the items are good,” Brantley said.

In the future, the founders want to recruit squadron representatives to help the cause and add collection bins at the base Commissary and Exchange.

“This is an incredible opportunity and a visual representation of Airmen helping Airmen,” said Col. Sherri LeVan., 55th Wing vice commander. “The timing of this with everything that has happened with the flood and the families and the Airmen that we have that can benefit from this right now, it is absolutely a blessing.”
