A burial service is set for a U.S. Army soldier who died in a North Korean prison camp 68 years ago.

Army Sgt. Frank J. Suliman, 20, a native of New Brunswick, New Jersey, will be buried April 30, in Wrightstown, New Jersey.

Suliman was a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, when he was captured and taken to a prisoner of war camp at Pukchin-Tarigol, North Korea where he reportedly died in March 1951.

His remains were among those returned by North Korea on July 27, 2018 following a summit between President Donald Trump and North Korea Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore. The remains were received at Joint Base Pearl Harbor – Hickam, Hawaii and positively identified on Jan. 15, 2019.

To positively identify Suliman’s remains, scientists from the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) used anthropological analysis, as well as circumstantial and material evidence. Additionally, scientists from the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System used mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and autosomal DNA (auSTR) analysis.
