Story by Tech. Sgt. Jocelyn Ford

    380th Air Expeditionary Wing

Every other month the 380th Expeditionary Force Support Squadron hosts a Food Forum meant to engage the base populous and encourage feedback on the current operations within the various dining facilities on base.

“The Air Force uses a set 28 day menu. Here at Al Dhafra Air Base we stagger and de-conflict menus so that Oasis, Windy’s and Roy’s offer different entrée’s on a particular day providing some variety to our deployers.” said Master Sgt. Rahim Edwards, 380th EFSS food service section chief.

Change is possible, but if they are unaware of the need, they can’t work to make it happen.

“Each DFAC has comment cards available where you can write down what we are doing well or requests you may have and there are collection boxes to deposit them. If you can’t find a form or a box, please contact one of the DFAC staff to assist. All constructive feedback helps us to better tailor our menu options to the needs of ADAB personnel.” said Lt. Col. Marietta Sanders, 380th EFSS commander.

Sanders has been on ADAB for almost a year and has witnessed changes to all facilities and menus. The Oasis was recently renovated and Windy’s operations were in a tent until September of last year. There was also a change in the food service contract, which brought about some extra weekly specials.

Filling out the comment cards is an immediate way to be heard. Rahim mentioned that, though it is not a requirement, contact information is encouraged so a follow up can occur within 48 hours.

Change can sometimes take time, depending on the request. If a request comes in that requires ingredients that are not already on hand, it would take longer to get all the approval needed to implement. However, if the request is something that does not require adding new items to an order list – like dill pickles on the sandwich bar or the return of the hotdog line – then implementation can be almost immediate.

“Our DFAC teams work hard to provide you with a variety of delicious options to enjoy and appreciate your feedback as we continuously strive to meet your nutritional needs while deployed.” said Sanders.

Comment cards are always available and the next food forum will be held in June, date and time will be advertised in the ADAB Happenings and posted at each DFAC.
