    Story by Spc. Deomontez Duncan

24th Theater Public Affairs Support Element

From April 2nd, 2019 to April 17, 2019 the 47th Brigade Support Battalion participated in training
exercise Strike Focus at Orogrande Range Camp, N.M., by providing medical, food, supply and
maintenance support to the unit. Strike Focus is a multifaceted and multi-week long training exercise
combining the numerous operational aspects of a brigade combat team in a cohesive operation
    emphasizing lethality, readiness and operability.
The 47th BSB's mission was to understand the needs of the maneuver commander during the
exercise and the requierments needed in order to complete the mission.
"The overall mission of the BSB is to provide the maneuver commander with options." Says Maj.
Chemitra Glenn, the executive officer of the 47 BSB. "When it comes to a tactical fight, our job is to
extend the reach of the fight, prolong the endurance and ensure freedom of action."
While there are many important factors that play a large role in conducting this exercise, the
battalion has one of the most important roles. Without the support battalion, Proper support and
materials would'nt be provided without the support battalion.
"Without the BSB its almost impossible for the operating force to perform their job," said Glenn.
"After hours fuel runs out and vehicles break down. We are the glue that keeps it all together."
While participating in this exercise Soldiers were also giving the chance to learn and become
more familiar with their job. They learned to adapt to different situations that could be a possible real life
    problem in the future.
"Strike Focus helped me learn how to craft my skills as more than a dental technician, but in the
medical field as a whole," said Spc. Qualish Curtis. "It taught me to be ready to react to any event that
may come up such as MASCAL; I can be prepared to not just be reactive but learn to be proactive to any
possibility that may come our way. Our overall mission is to increase readiness and to treat patients. If a
Soldier is sick or injured, then its just one less Soldier that we have to take care of our equipment or
    fight."
Along with learning to adapt to different situations Soldiers learned to identify potential
challenges and obstacles they could face in the future one being multiple military occupations working
    together to complete on goal.
"Though managing and working with multiple military occupations could become one of the
challenges we face, we've learned to understanding what it is we are tring to achieve overall." said
Glenn. "We have the most warren officers in the brigade; they are the key to helping us understand what
the technical services their soldiers can provide are. The commander can then use this knowlege to then
translate that to something that supports the Brigade."
