BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Soldiers with the Army Reserve Sustainment Command stood in formation to witness Command Sgt. Maj. Kristal Florquist, outgoing command sergeant major of the ARSC, relinquish responsibility to Command Sgt. Maj. Christopher Luchsinger.

Florquist will move on to be the first female command sergeant major of a two-star level Army Reserve Command with the 75th Innovation Command. Brig. Gen. David Ling, commanding general of the ARSC, spoke very highly of Florquist and her exceptional leadership during her time as the command sergeant major for the ARSC.

Ling spoke of the history of the sergeant major with roots dating back to 16th century Spain.
“It’s important to recognize the history of the sergeant major rank, and (Command Sgt. Maj.) Florquist epitomizes this through her servant leadership style,” said Ling to all in attendance. “On behalf of the entire command team, I want to thank you for your dedicated service to the ARSC.”

As Florquist was recognized, she had the opportunity to address the ARSC Soldiers one last time. She thanked Ling for his mentorship, faith and trust in her during her time at the ARSC.
“The ARSC is a fantastic unit,” said Florquist. “Credit is often given to senior leaders, but we couldn’t do what we do without professionals like you.”

Florquist released responsibility to Luchsinger, who recently served as the command sergeant major for the Southeast Medical Area Readiness Support Group in Nashville, Tennessee.
Luchsinger is a Florida native with more than 30 years of military experience.

During the ceremony, Luchsinger shared his core beliefs with the Soldiers of the ARSC and said he is looking forward to working with such a great group of professionals.
