Leadership Georgia visits Stewart

Twenty-two representatives from Evans, Liberty and Waycross counties participated in Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield combined leadership tour, April 11 as part of the Leadership Georgia program.

Leadership Georgia is a multi-tiered training program for business, civic, and community leaders with a goal of building networks and working together to better Georgia at all levels. The program is affiliated with the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. It begins at the lowest level with programs conducted by county Chambers of Commerce.

“Our intent is to familiarize leadership classes with the installation and 3rd Infantry Division, the history, and impact to the region. Focusing on demonstrating Readiness, Modernization and Partnerships,” said Dina McKain, Fort Stewart Public Affairs.

Attendees started the day with a command brief provided by the Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield garrison commander, Col. Jason Wolter, who familiarized them with the installation, units, and basic mission.

Wolter explained the maneuver space and training capability, combined with the ability to deploy anywhere in the world rapidly - using road, rail, air and local seaside ports, made Fort Stewart one of the Army’s premier power projection platforms. He noted most of the Soldiers and their Families live in the communities the attendees represent. He thanked attendees for helping take care of those Families, adding Soldiers were able to concentrate on their mission, knowing their Families were being taken care of at home.

The next stops included the installation’s Directorate of Emergency Services’ fire department; Winn Army Community Hospital; the 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment motor pool; the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Safety Engagement Skills Trainer; and the 3rd Infantry Division Museum.

They learned about the basic mission, resources and capabilities at each of the locations and in some cases about training and partnership opportunities.
